Waterfalls of Orissa

Almost the entire landscape of Orissa is covered with plateaus and hilly region. And most of the major rivers of Orissa find their origin in these highlands, forming river valleys and majestic waterfalls. What’s spectacular about these waterfalls of Orissa are that all these waterfalls in the state are shrouded by a cover of dense forest that give them a unique serene surrounding. Ignoring the multitude of small rain fed waterfalls, one can zero in around thirteen waterfalls in the state that range from a height of 30 meters to 250 meters which are very popular tourist destination. The Badheipani waterfall is the highest of these waterfall and falls from a height of 399 meters followed by the Khandadhar falls. Most of the rivers, either at the point of origin or over the mountainous bed, have waterfalls. The Barehipani and Joranda (Similipal) in Myurbhanja district Sanaghagara and Badaghagara in Keonjhar district. Padhanpuri in Deogarh district khandadhar (Banei) in Sundargarh district Phurliharan, Khandabaladhar, and Rabandhar in kalahandi district Kentamari and putudi in Boudh and Phulbani district DumDuma in Malkangiri district and Bogra in Koraput district are some of the major waterfalls in Orissa.
